How did you get started in the tax credit investing industry?
I was first introduced to tax credit investing during my tenure at The Williams Companies, where I held various roles over seven years. During my time in Corporate Development, I built dynamic models for capital projects covering solar, battery and natural gas. Williams was not a corporate taxpayer at the time, requiring us to explore alternative routes to monetize Investment Tax Credits. This experience provided me with key knowledge in tax credit structures. The knowledge and expertise I gained from this exercise has been invaluable in my contributions at Foss & Company.
When did you join Foss & Company and what interested you about the company?
I joined Foss & Company in August of 2023 and was drawn to the organization’s rapid-paced environment and talented professionals. The tax credit industry is ever evolving, and Foss & Company has consistently remained at the forefront, creating innovative solutions to address challenges. This forward-thinking approach aligns with the type of company I find fulfilling to work for.
What originally interested you about the renewable energy/sustainability industry?
I have always been passionate about making a meaningful impact. When Williams created a New Energy Venture division, I eagerly transitioned over as a Business Development Representative. My responsibilities centered around the development of solar and battery storage initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption at compression facilities situated along pipeline assets. Joining Foss & Company was a great next step in furthering my goal in making an impact in this industry.
Any major changes in the renewable energy tax credit industry that you are excited about or that people should be aware of?
The IRA has propelled the development of new projects and opportunities. Foss & Company is strategically positioned to lead the investment in these ventures, and I am excited to contribute to the team’s efforts by running the diligence processes on Foss’ underwriting of renewable investments and conducting screenings with prospective developers.
Any other insights you would like to add?
Before moving to Denver, I lived in downtown Tulsa, OK, at the Mayo Hotel, a historic luxury property featuring guest rooms and private residences. During its restoration in 2008, the Historic Tax Credit investor for this project was none other than Foss & Company. Tax credits hold unique characteristics that offer significant tax benefits to investors while also supporting important social and environmental causes. Foss & Company is not only recognized as a thought leader in the industry, but we continue to remain committed to leading the way by providing our clients with unparalleled expertise in tax equity, clean energy, historic tax credits and more.
