Foss & Company is comprised of a group of experienced tax credit professionals, representing a depth of knowledge within their respective fields. In this blog series, we highlight different Foss & Company team members to shine a light on the diverse and dedicated people that help make us who we are.
Devin Benton, VP of Investments, brings over two decades of experience in institutional investment sales and client relations, with a career that began as a Captain in the U.S. Army. Following military service, he built a strong track record of revenue growth and new asset generation across firms including OFI Global Asset Management, Bridgeway Capital Management, and American Century Investments. Throughout that time, he developed a proven ability to cultivate and close senior relationships with large corporations and institutional capital allocators across the United State and Europe — experience that translates directly to identifying and engaging large taxable investors seeking strong returns alongside measurable impact.
How did you get started in the tax credit investing industry?
After more than 25 years in institutional sales, capital raising and client relationships, I saw an opportunity to bring that experience to the tax credit and tax equity market. While the asset class was new to me, working with sophisticated institutional investors and understanding their objectives was very familiar. I was excited to apply that experience to an industry where exciting investments in renewables and historic real estate can also make a real difference in communities.
When did you join Foss & Company, and what interested you about the company?
I joined Foss & Company in early 2026 . What attracted me was the combination of investment expertise and real-world impact. Foss has built a strong, 40-year business connecting capital with projects that benefit communities, and I liked the idea of being part of a company where you can help clients achieve their investment goals while also contributing to communities and our growing energy needs – a true double bottom line.
What do you find important or interesting about tax credits?
What I find most interesting is the purpose behind them. As a former Army officer, I appreciate the role government can play in encouraging investment in areas that matter to communities and society. Tax credits and tax equity are critical mechanisms federal and state governments can employ to bring private capital to those priorities. The fact that investors can potentially benefit financially while helping fund meaningful projects makes this a particularly rewarding area to be in.
What is one thing people may not know about tax credit investments?
I think many people are surprised by how sophisticated the market has become. Tax credit investments are much more than simply receiving a tax benefit. They are thoughtfully structured investments that require careful underwriting, strong execution, and a clear understanding of the investor’s objectives. When done well with an experienced partner, they can be a valuable addition to an investor’s overall portfolio.
How has the tax credit investing industry evolved, and where do you see it going?
The industry has grown from a relatively specialized market into a much more sophisticated part of the investment landscape. I think we’ll continue to see more corporations and institutional investors recognize the value tax credit investments can provide, particularly as they look for ways to combine financial objectives with meaningful economic and social impact. I’m excited to be part of that growth and to help investors better understand the opportunities available to them.
Any other insights you would like to add?
One thing that has really stood out to me is how much opportunity there is for investors who have already gained some experience with tax credit transactions. I’m excited to see those investors take the next step and recognize the broader value tax equity can offer, including tax credits, depreciation benefits, and potential investment returns. I think there is a real opportunity to build on that experience and make tax equity an increasingly important part of their investment strategy.
